Responsibilities of passport holders
According to the Decision, passport holders shall have the following responsibilities:
- Carefully conserve and preserve the passports and refrain from erasing or editing the content of such papers, lending them to others, or using them contrary to the law of Vietnam.
- Use only one type of unexpired passport for each overseas business trip in conformity with the decision on business trip appointment and the nature of the overseas work, excluding special cases according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.
- Upon decisions on overseas business trip appointments, concerned individuals shall bring such decisions to the passport management units to carry out the procedures for passport delivery; passports shall be returned to the passport management departments of units within 5 working days after individuals return from business trips.
In case of another business trip after returning to Vietnam, appointment decisions shall be sent to passport management departments of units for acknowledgment and monitoring.
- Upon transfer of working agencies, officials and public employees with issued passports shall submit reports to the passport management units of transferring and receiving agencies for them to carry out the handover and management of passports as per regulation.
- Refrain from using diplomatic and official passports to travel abroad for personal purposes.
- Where passports are damaged, officials and public employees shall immediately submit reports to passport management units for reports to competent authorities for handling as per regulation. (new regulation)
- Where passports are lost:
+ If passport holders are in Vietnam, they shall make written statements with confirmation from the accompanying persons or the nearest public security authorities; promptly submit reports to units directly managing diplomatic and official passports of officials and public employees and authorities competent to appoint officials and public employees abroad to request the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam to carry out the procedure for terminating the lost passports as per regulation.
+ If passport holders are abroad, they shall provide written declarations for competent authorities of the countries and the nearest diplomatic representative missions of Vietnam abroad.
Decision No. 2742/QD-BTC comes into force as of November 19, 2024 and replaces Decision No. 2825/QD-BTC dated November 18, 2013.
